Introduction

This programme prepares you for an exciting career as a globally-minded designer. You’ll acquire the skills you need to become a professional product or service designer, and create innovative products and engaging service experiences. You’ll also develop a creative and innovative approach to product design and service innovation by challenging and exploring contemporary practices through a series of exciting and diverse projects.

Exhibition 
You will have opportunities to exhibit your work through curating student-led exhibitions in the Graduate Show.

Studio learning and more

The programme emphasises studio learning which provides opportunities for supervisors to work with you to create design solutions for real-life problems or offer new design opportunities and peer exchange. Besides studio learning and in-person teaching, your learning will also be enriched with online sessions and remote access to resources.

 

Modules

Graduation Design Portfolio (Product Design)

In this module you will produce a significant body of independent product design project work, including design work based on a project brief that you generate via self-directed research. The module brings together the theoretical and practical skills, knowledge and experiences gained during previous study to provide an experience that mimics the role of the professional product designer.  You will develop your understanding of how your practice can be applied in real-world/practical settings.

Importance of choosing a non-local top-up with QF Level 5

Employment
  • Degree qualifications pitched at QF Level 5 are formally recognised by the HKSAR Government for employment purposes within the Civil Service for graduate posts.

Further Studies
  • Having been recognised at QF Level 5, this top-up degree programme meets the standard of locally-accredited bachelor's degree programmes.  Upon graduation, students can pursue their further studies at Master’s degree level in Hong Kong or Overseas.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

Holders of the following VTC Higher Diploma (HD) programmes;

  • HD in Product Design
  • HD in Furniture and Lifestyle Product Design

OR

Holders of Higher Diploma (HD) or Associate Degree (AD) or equivalent qualifications in a relevant Design area awarded by a recognised institution will also be considered.  Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an admission interview to assess their suitability of studying the programme, and submit a portfolio of work demonstrating creative or intellectual abilities.

 

English Proficiency Requirements

  • Applicants holding post-secondary qualifications (e.g. Higher Diploma, Associate Degree) taught and assessed in English from recognised institutions;

OR

  • At least an overall IELTS score of 6.0, or equivalent.

Fees

  • Application Fee : HK$200 (No application fee before the deadline!)
  • Registration Fee : HK$3,500
  • Tuition Fee : HK81,460 by 2 instalments

Career Prospects

This course programme prepares you for a career in product design, user experience/interface and service design, technological product design, industrial design, designing and making, design consultancy, design management, entrepreneurship / start-up business, advanced manufacturing, digital visualization, education, sales and marketing, and etc.

 

Further Studies

Graduates of this programme can further their studies in relevant master’s degree programmes offered by SHU in the UK such as MA/MFA in Design (Product), in Design(Interaction) and MA in Design for Health, and other master’s degrees locally and overseas.
