BSc (Hons) Building Surveying
Introduction
This programme offers strong academic and tutoring supports with 50-60 contact hours per module, and provides you with a route to becoming a full member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). It involves the identification, analysis, evaluation and subsequent solving of problems associated with the technological, economic and legal issues encountered in the field of building surveying.

- Maintenance Management (20 credits)

This module provides an analytical approach to non-compliance of performance, and recognise the limitations set by the structure of new and existing buildings and services systems, whilst placing the area of technology in the context of management, diagnostic appraisal and technical actions such as remedial treatment, replacement or reuse.
- Facilities Management (CEF Module) (20 credits)

The module aims to acquaint students with the various facets of facilities management. Students will consider the role of the building professional within a corporate environment with a view to developing an awareness of the interaction and effect of the individual non-core activities on corporate achievement.
- Building Conservation (20 credits)

The module aims to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of conservation in the historic built environment through exploring the principles, legislative framework, policy issues and philosophies relating to building conservation, all in the broader context of achieving sustainable development.
- Project Analysis and Appraisal (CEF Module) (20 credits)

This module is designed to equip students with the overall concept of “a project” by considering its phases and constituent parts from inception to completion. The analysis and appraisal of the project will be considered in relation to the four aspects of Whole Life-Cycle Appraisal and in relation to new-build, refurbishment and regeneration projects.

The module develops students’ concepts of Building Pathology combined with building performance and the appraisal of remedial and design solutions to the degradation processes. It will also be used to develop their understanding of essential practice-relevant issues such as awareness of the requirements of codes of professional conduct and ethics and the fundamentals of practice management.
- Dissertation / Project (20 credits)

On an individual basis the student will be required to carry out an in-depth study involving theoretical, experimental or investigative analysis, or a combination of these, in the context of a critical review of an aspect of construction and/or the built or natural environment.
This course has been included in the list of reimbursable courses under Continuing Education Fund. The mother course (BSc (Hons) Building Surveying) of this module is recognised under the Qualifications Framework (QF Level 5).

Career Prospects
Graduates may be employed as survey officers, project coordinators and building surveyors in the building, civil engineering and built environment industry.
Further Studies
Having been recognised at QF Level 5, this top-up degree programme meets the standard of locally-accredited bachelor's degree programmes. Upon graduation, students can pursue their further studies at Master’s degree level in Hong Kong or Overseas.
Graduates may continue further studies in surveying, construction management and relevant disciplines offered by local and overseas universities.
