Introduction

This programme provides you with the fundamental range of skills necessary to become a software developer.  It equips you with key programming, analysis and design skills including back and front-end web development, internet-of-things development, user experience design, quality assurance and testing, system administration, and security that give you a competitive edge in the job market.

Practical professional skillsets
You will be given lots of opportunities to work with new technologies to help develop new design solutions, in the classroom and on real-life projects, where you will work with staff on real-world computing and design problems as you would in commercial, professional or research practice. This means that you can develop professional skills at the same time as you learn the technical contents of your degree. 


No examination
Assessment 100% based on coursework, phase test and final project, etc.

Modules

Data Science for Developers

This module provides an insight into how data and information retrieval systems are designed. It aims to provide an introductory study of database concepts, theory and design aimed at practical use of database and information retrieval tools and techniques.

Individual Project

The aim of this module is for you to build on your previous project preparation module and conduct development, reach relevant and useful conclusions in its evaluation, and communicate these in a professional academic report.

Individual Project Preparation

The aim of this module is to prepare you for your individual or group project, including topic selection, supervisor allocation, project planning and literature review.

Web API Development (CEF Module)

This module will equip you with the knowledge and skills to create your own API for use in web applications using the latest technologies and featuring an interactive web client.

Mobile App Development (CEF Module)

(CEF code: 34Z122533)
This module will enable you to use development kits to build applications for mobile platforms.

User Experience Design (CEF Module)

(CEF code: 34Z136534)
The module will allow you to focus on the creation of graphical user interfaces, from simple prototyping through to coded product.

Security (CEF Module)

(CEF code: 34Z136542)
This module introduces you to the concepts and practical considerations of creating and evaluating secure computer systems.

Academic Writing 3:Writing Skills for Dissert and Res Prj

This module offers you strategies for conceptualising, planning, drafting, revising and editing longer assignments such as final-year projects.  Focusing on final-year associated tasks of 'evaluate', 'synthesise', 'argue' and ‘reflect’, this module emphasises the place of these types of discourse and practice in academic communication. 

 For part-time mode only. This course has been included in the list of reimbursable courses under Continuing Education Fund. The mother course (BSc (Hons) Computing) of this module is recognised under the Qualifications Framework (QF Level 5).

Employment
  • Degree qualifications pitched at QF Level 5 are formally recognised by the HKSAR Government for employment purposes within the Civil Service for graduate posts.

Further Studies
  • Having been recognised at QF Level 5, this top-up degree programme meets the standard of locally-accredited bachelor's degree programmes. Upon graduation, students can pursue their further studies at Master’s degree level in Hong Kong or Overseas.

Holders of Higher Diploma, or Associate Degree, or equivalent qualifications in relevant IT subjects from recognised institutions will also be considered.  These applicants must also be able to demonstrate competence equivalent to an HKDSE Level 2 or HKCEE Grade E in Mathematics.*

English Proficiency Requirements

  • Applicants holding post-secondary qualifications (e.g. Higher Diploma, Associate Degree, Professional Diploma) taught and assessed in English from recognised institutions;

OR

  • At least an overall IELTS score of 6.5, or equivalent.
