BEng (Hons) Electronic and Computer Engineering student wins the Gold Award of HKSH Gerontech Competition 2020/21

The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) has organized the HKHS Gerontech Competition 2020/21, attracting more than 750 students from nearly 150 teams to participate in the challenge.  The competition aims to encourage the younger generation to invent for the improvement of elderly wellbeing through creative ideas and the application of technology and gerontology.

Ho King Hei, student of BEng (Hons) Electronic and Computer Engineering, UWE Bristol, joins hands with 4 students from IVE Hospitality programmes, has won the Gold Award (Tertiary Student Category), the Best Creativity Award, and the Most Popular Award which was returned by public voting. 

The winning entry, “Outdoor Smart Fitness Station”, is an interactive reaction lights training device that aims to encourage the elderly to exercise using new technology which helps to improve their eye-hand coordination.  The device can also track the performance of the elderly so that the physiotherapist can access the data for follow-up.
