Modules
- Professional Practice and Work Experience in Interior Design 3
-
The module Professional Practice and Work Experience in Interior Design 3 prepares students to enter the creative industries. Students will undertake a series of exercises, for example, developing a professional outcome in anticipation of internal and external public shows. On successful completion of the module, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding and critical awareness of the latest developments in the creative industries and plan their careers or further studies.
- Visual Culture 3
-
The module Visual Culture 3 is a module of contextual studies where students design and produce a research project reinforcing a specialised interest in contemporary critical debates and contexts supporting contemporary creative production. In lectures and studios, students are supported to develop ideas, design and implement research projects, and are provided with guidance on their independent study. In tutorials, students carry out on-going research, critical reading and writing. Students are expected to actively participate in peer-to-peer discussions, student-led research tasks, and group discussions to respond to the materials presented to them or developed from their individual study. Participation in these learning experiences is core to the ethos of, and is an assessment strategy for the module. The outcomes of the module are that students will demonstrate their research skills, especially the ability to design and develop their own projects through critical research, locate their practice in relevant theoretical debates, develop argument and analysis, and present in appropriate academic formats.
- Preparation for Extended Study in Interior Design
-
The module Preparation for Extended Study in Interior Design allows the students to plan ahead for the major final module, Extended Study in Interior Design, where they will further consolidate their practices for their final assessment. In studying the module Preparation for Extended Study in Interior Design, students will seek to demonstrate the understanding of their own practices by preparing a body of work along with research, a learning agreement and essential reading that they will use to complete the year of study. On successful completion of the module Preparation for Extended Study in Interior Design, students will acquire the ability in implementing appropriate methodologies, developing relevant technical expertise and using models to consolidate a practice in which they generate, develop and resolve ideas and professionally communicate them to an appropriate audience.
- Extended Study in Interior Design
-
Students consolidate their practice in the module Extended Study in Interior Design. As the final studio module of the Programme, this module builds on the student-led planning in the module Preparation for Extended Study in Interior Design. In the module Extended Study in Interior Design, students are required to use the ideas developed in the previous module Preparation for Extended Study in Interior Design, developing them further through an intensive period of research and design development. The module enables students to demonstrate their contextual understanding of their works which reflect individual interests and intentions, and their ability to synthesise conceptual and technical matters. The module also develops students’ knowledge and understanding required to produce work for an audience, and their professional responsibility and knowledge of relevant discourses in interior design.
