Programme Features
Teaching on the course comes in the form of lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and industry speakers, not to mention self-directed or self-paced study in your own time. Most of the teaching is done in small groups.
The course materials are incredibly varied: harnessing e-learning, podcasts, discussion boards and more. We also embed real-world scenarios throughout the course, ensuring you can put the theory into a practical context and see the relevance of what you are learning to the industry you want to work in.
Modules
- Management and Professional Development for Sport
-
The module will revisit and develop the concepts and theories of self-development and reflection introduced at level 4. It will enable students to critically evaluate these key theories, concepts and techniques and use them to critically evaluate their own self-development throughout the degree. It will also enable students to further prepare themselves for their transition into the sport and wider business workplace.
- Strategic Sport Business Management
-
This module will critically explore the theory and practice of corporate and business strategy in sports organisations and the industries within which they operate both in the UK and internationally. This will develop within the students, analytical skills which will enable them to focus on areas of good practice and explain how firms are using particular strategies to compete and deal with domestic and international strategic issues.
- Dissertation
-
The aim of the dissertation is to provide an opportunity for students to pursue an in-depth study on a topic of their own choice which is related to their substantive areas of study. Students will work independently, under limited supervision, in order to develop and demonstrate their academic skills and abilities. The dissertation will normally be based on a topic stemming from their degree studies and will demonstrate the use of primary and secondary data collection techniques. Relevant literature is to be reviewed and applied to the primary research activities to investigate the topic and present an academic report in the form of a research dissertation.
- Contemporary Issues in Sport Business Management
-
The aim of this module is to provide students with a critical insight and appreciation of the operational, sociological and philosophical issues that are evident in contemporary sports. This assessment will be underpinned by an understanding of relevant concepts to facilitate critical thinking from the students. This module seeks to challenge students to view contemporary issues in sports from different perspectives and contexts.
