Programme Features
Studying this degree involves different modes of learning in a variety of environments. This includes lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops.
Modules
- Dissertation
-
The aim of the dissertation is to provide an opportunity for students to pursue an in-depth study on a topic of their own choice which is related to their substantive areas of study. You'll work independently, under limited supervision, in order to develop and demonstrate their academic skills and abilities. The dissertation will normally be based on a topic stemming from their degree studies and will demonstrate the use of primary and secondary data collection techniques. Relevant literature is to be reviewed and applied to the primary research activities to investigate the topic and present an academic report in the form of a research dissertation.
- Contemporary Physical Education and School Sport
-
This module will give you the knowledge and understanding of current policies and practices in Physical Education and Sport. You'll focus on the impact of educational reform policies on the development of PE and School Sport and how these impact teachers' performances. You'll also critically analyse the delivery of the National Curriculum in PE on pupils.
- Sociological Issues in Disability Sport
-
The module aims to advance knowledge of disability sport by examining a range of contemporary issues from a sociological perspective. This examination will be underpinned by an understanding of relevant theories and concepts, including able-bodied hegemony, medical and social models, and the social-relational understanding of disability. The module seeks to develop a critical understanding of a range of social, political and ethical issues in disability sport and the implications of these for participants in both domestic and international contexts.
- Developing Sport in Practice
-
The aim of this module is to give learners the opportunity to develop a coherent sports development initiative using a multi-disciplinary approach. It will enable students to develop skills and abilities within a relevant sports organisation and to provide a meaningful contribution to the sports development environment.
