Named University of the Year 2022 in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Awards, the win marks Northumbria’s remarkable transformation to become the UK’s first research-intensive modern university. Results from the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021) show Northumbria with the biggest rise in research power of any UK university. Northumbria University has been recognized as one of the top universities in the UK, receiving the title of Modern University of the Year 2025 from The Times and The Sunday Times. Additionally, it is ranked 34th in the UK according to the Complete University Guide 2025 and is listed among the Top 100 Young Universities in the Times Higher Education 2024 rankings.
